Law Enforcement Guidelines
These guidelines explain how authorized law-enforcement and government agencies may request preservation or disclosure of information from Closer Dating LLC, operator of Closer Singles. They are informational and do not create rights, waive objections, or replace applicable law.

Emergency involving danger of death or serious physical injury
If you are an authorized law-enforcement officer seeking information necessary to address an emergency involving danger of death or serious physical injury, email legal@closersingles.com with the subject EMERGENCY DISCLOSURE REQUEST.
Clearly describe the emergency, the specific danger, why disclosure is needed without delay, the narrowly tailored records requested, and your agency contact information. Email is monitored but is not guaranteed to provide an immediate response. Call local emergency services for active emergencies.
Where to send requests
Send legal process, preservation requests, emergency requests, and related correspondence from an official government email address. Email submission is for review and routing only; it does not waive defects, objections, jurisdictional requirements, or formal service requirements. Closer may require service through another legally authorized method.
Do not send passwords, payment-card data, or illegal sexual imagery. Law enforcement should provide identifiers and hashes when possible rather than transmitting contraband.
Information every request should include
- Requesting agency, officer or attorney name, badge or employee number, official title, official email, direct telephone number, and physical agency address.
- Case name and number, the offense under investigation, and the legal authority supporting the request.
- A specific Closer account identifier, such as the complete registered email address, user ID, or other uniquely identifying information. Names alone may be insufficient.
- The exact records requested and a reasonably narrow date range, including applicable time zone.
- The date by which a response is requested and whether a court has restricted user notice.
- A complete, legible, signed copy of the subpoena, warrant, court order, preservation request, or other process.
Overbroad, vague, informal, technically infeasible, or legally deficient requests may be rejected, narrowed, or challenged.
Disclosure standards
Closer discloses user information only when authorized or required by applicable law. Different categories of information may require different legal process. A subpoena may be sufficient for certain basic subscriber records, while communications content generally requires a search warrant or other legally sufficient process. Closer evaluates each request on its facts and may seek clarification or object when appropriate.
Production is limited to information reasonably located and available in Closer’s custody or control. Closer cannot produce information it does not collect, no longer retains, cannot reasonably retrieve, or does not possess.
User notice
Closer may notify an affected user before or after disclosure unless prohibited by law, a valid nondisclosure order, or circumstances involving an emergency or other lawful exception. Any nondisclosure demand should identify its legal basis and duration.
Preservation requests
Authorized U.S. governmental entities may request preservation of identified records pending issuance of legal process. Requests should cite 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f), precisely identify the account and records, include the date range, and be signed by the requesting official.
Consistent with § 2703(f), qualifying preserved records are generally held for 90 days and may be extended once for an additional 90 days upon a timely renewed request. Preservation does not itself authorize disclosure. Valid legal process is still required before production.
Preservation requests are prospective only as to records that exist and can be identified when the request is received. They do not require Closer to reconstruct previously deleted information.
Child sexual exploitation and trafficking
Closer is an adults-only service. Apparent child sexual exploitation, enticement, or trafficking is prohibited. Closer may preserve relevant information, suspend involved accounts, make reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline when required or permitted, and cooperate with authorized law enforcement consistent with applicable law.
Do not email child sexual abuse material to Closer. Use case identifiers, URLs, account identifiers, timestamps, and recognized hash values. If an image is legally necessary, coordinate a secure and lawful transfer method first.
Requests from outside the United States
Foreign authorities should use an applicable mutual legal assistance treaty, letter rogatory, CLOUD Act executive agreement, or other process recognized by U.S. law. Direct informal requests may not provide a lawful basis for disclosure.
Verification and production
Closer may verify the identity and authority of the requesting official, contact the agency independently, request supporting documentation, and use a secure production method. Records may be provided electronically in a reasonably usable format. Closer may seek reimbursement of legally permissible costs for unusually burdensome requests.
Submission of falsified legal process or impersonation of government personnel may be reported to appropriate authorities.
