Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Closer Dating LLC (“Closer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operator of Closer Singles, collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use our website and dating service.
Effective and last updated: July 27, 2026
1. Information we collect
| Category | Examples and source |
|---|---|
| Account information | Name, email address, date of birth, password hash, account status, membership tier, email-verification status, and account creation or activity timestamps. You provide most of this information directly. |
| Profile and preference information | Biography, gender, who you are interested in, orientation, dating intentions, relationship style, hair color, children, beliefs, smoking, drinking, education, occupation, height, hometown, prompts and answers, search preferences, profile photos, and other content you choose to add. Some of these details may be considered sensitive under applicable law. |
| Location and presence | Latitude and longitude supplied by your browser or device with permission, the time location was updated, approximate distance to other members, and online or last-active status. We use precise coordinates internally but do not display your exact coordinates to ordinary members. |
| Interactions and communications | Likes, Roses, matches, blocks, reports, private messages, read status, and related timestamps. Messages are private from other unmatched members but may be reviewed by authorized personnel for safety, support, legal compliance, or enforcement. |
| Verification information | Profile photos, a live-selfie reference or manually submitted selfie, liveness confidence, face-comparison similarity, verification status, attempt history, and limited audit images. This processing may qualify as biometric or sensitive personal information in some jurisdictions. |
| Payments and purchases | Membership or add-on selected, price, transaction status, Stripe checkout or subscription identifiers, and expiration dates. Stripe processes payment-card details; Closer does not intentionally store full card numbers or security codes. |
| Technical and security information | Session tokens, security tokens, browser local storage, request and server logs, IP-related security information, error records, audit events, and information needed to prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access. |
| Support and legal information | Messages sent to our support, safety, privacy, billing, or legal addresses; identity-verification information for privacy requests; and records related to legal process or disputes. |
2. How we use information
- Create, authenticate, maintain, and secure accounts.
- Build member profiles and show them to potentially compatible members.
- Calculate distance, apply plan-based discovery ranges, support search filters, and show approximate proximity or online presence.
- Provide likes, Roses, matching, private messaging, subscriptions, and optional profile promotions.
- Verify that a member is a live person and compare the private verification image with profile photos to reduce impersonation and fraud.
- Process payments, confirm purchases, administer benefits, and maintain billing records.
- Detect, investigate, prevent, and respond to fraud, spam, abuse, safety incidents, prohibited content, security events, and violations of our policies.
- Respond to support requests, privacy requests, disputes, legal process, and emergencies.
- Operate, troubleshoot, analyze, improve, and protect the service.
- Comply with law and enforce our agreements.
3. Profile visibility and member sharing
Your display name, age derived from your birth date, profile details, profile photos, verification badge, approximate distance, and online status may be visible to other eligible members. Exact coordinates, registered email address, private verification selfie, payment identifiers, and administrator notes are not shown on ordinary public profiles.
Members you match with can see messages and information you send them. Use care when sharing contact information, location details, or other sensitive content. We cannot control what another member does after receiving information you voluntarily share.
4. Facial verification and biometric information
When you choose live verification, Closer asks for affirmative consent before activating the camera. Amazon Rekognition Face Liveness checks whether a live person is present and creates a reference image. Closer then compares that reference image with selected profile photos. The system returns liveness and similarity results; uncertain cases may be sent to an authorized safety administrator for manual review.
We use this information only for authenticity, fraud prevention, safety, and related account enforcement—not for advertising. A manual-selfie review path is available when automated camera verification is unavailable. Do not submit another person’s image.
Verification images and related results are restricted from ordinary members. They are retained only as reasonably necessary for verification, safety review, fraud prevention, dispute handling, legal obligations, and enforcement, then deleted or de-identified under our retention practices. Where law requires a specific biometric notice, consent, retention schedule, or deletion process, we will apply those requirements.
5. When we disclose information
Service providers
We disclose information to vendors that perform services on our behalf, subject to appropriate restrictions. These may include:
- Stripe for checkout, card processing, subscriptions, fraud prevention, and billing administration.
- Amazon Web Services, including Amazon Rekognition for live-person and face-comparison verification.
- Hosting, database, security, storage, email, and infrastructure providers used to operate Closer Singles and deliver transactional email.
Safety, law, and business events
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to protect a person from harm; investigate fraud, abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or security threats; make reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children where required or permitted; comply with valid legal process; enforce our agreements; or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. See our Law Enforcement Guidelines.
If Closer is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be disclosed as part of that transaction subject to applicable law.
We do not sell personal information for money or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Administrators, moderation, and message review
Authorized Closer administrators may access account details, exact stored location, profiles, photos, verification selfies and results, billing status, reports, blocks, matches, and message history when reasonably necessary for safety, moderation, support, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or service administration. Sensitive administrator access is logged. Access does not mean every conversation is routinely read.
7. Cookies, local storage, and similar technologies
Closer uses browser local storage and essential security technologies to keep you signed in, protect requests, remember necessary service state, and complete checkout. Our payment and infrastructure providers may use cookies or similar technologies under their own policies. Closer does not currently use personal information for third-party cross-context behavioral advertising.
You can clear browser storage through your browser settings, but doing so may sign you out or interrupt service functionality.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain your account, protect members, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, comply with legal obligations, and support legitimate business operations. Retention depends on the data and purpose:
- Account, profile, location, messages, matches, photos, verification, and membership records generally remain while an account is active.
- Expired sign-in sessions and verification links stop functioning after their configured expiration periods.
- After account deletion, we delete or de-identify information within a commercially reasonable period, subject to backups, fraud and safety records, transaction and tax records, legal holds, NCMEC-related duties, and other lawful retention requirements.
- Information may remain longer when necessary to prevent a banned member from returning, protect people from harm, document consent, investigate misconduct, or comply with law.
Backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten. Deletion cannot remove information another member independently saved or shared outside Closer.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including HTTPS in transit, password hashing, access controls, private storage for verification images, restricted administrative access, and audit logging. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, loss, or misuse will never occur.
Use a unique password, protect your device, and report suspected compromise to support@closersingles.com.
10. Your choices and privacy rights
You may edit many profile fields and photos in your account. You may disable browser location permission, although discovery features may stop working. You may request account deletion or exercise applicable privacy rights by emailing privacy@closersingles.com.
Depending on where you live and whether a law applies to Closer, you may have rights to:
- Know or access categories and specific pieces of personal information.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete personal information, subject to lawful exceptions.
- Receive a portable copy of certain information.
- Limit or withdraw consent for certain sensitive or biometric processing.
- Opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling. Closer does not presently sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Appeal a denied privacy request where applicable.
- Receive equal service and pricing without unlawful discrimination for exercising privacy rights.
We may need to verify your identity and relationship to the account before fulfilling a request. Authorized agents may be required to provide proof of authority. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
11. Children
Closer is exclusively for adults age 18 or older. We do not knowingly permit minors to create accounts. If we learn that a minor has used the service, we may suspend the account, delete information as appropriate, preserve evidence, and make legally required safety reports. Report suspected underage use to safety@closersingles.com.
12. International processing
Closer and its providers may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate. Those locations may have different privacy laws. Where applicable law requires a transfer mechanism or additional protection, we will use an appropriate mechanism.
13. Third-party services and links
Stripe, Amazon Web Services, and other third parties process information under their own terms and privacy policies when acting independently. Closer may link to third-party websites that we do not control. Review their policies before providing information.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect product, vendor, legal, or operational changes. We will post the revised policy with a new “last updated” date and provide additional notice when required. Continued use after an effective update is subject to the revised policy.
